Jen is currently completing her Masters of Counselling degree at Athabasca University. Additionally she holds a Bachelor of Arts and Social Work Degrees, which she has applied in serving clients as a Registered Social Worker since 2013.
Jen values genuine relationships built on mutual respect, trust, and understanding. These are the relationships that she strives to build through the therapeutic process with her clients. This relationship foundation creates the safe space required for her clients to navigate the therapeutic journey. Jen values individuality, recognizing that each of us view the world in different ways based on social and cultural factors. Her approach is client-centred and non-judgmental, taking time to understand and explore each client’s narrative from their point of view.
Jen approaches counselling from a solution-focused, strengths-based and integrative framework. She believes that every person who enters counselling brings with them a unique set of strengths, resources, experiences and knowledge that should be honoured and validated. Jen believes that by bringing awareness to these areas she can help her clients to pave the way to achieving their goals. Additionally, she believes that knowing one’s strengths can help empower her clients, which leads to greater personal growth and well-being.
Jen draws upon techniques from Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Mindfulness-based therapies in her counselling. She continues to strive towards growing and developing her skill and knowledge set to best suit her client’s needs.
